#YoungCalifornia Featured DJ: DJ 1MOR
Where are you from and how did you become a DJ?
I was born and raised in Eagle Rock California. A city within the best city in the world, Los Angeles. I’ve always wanted to become a DJ since I was nine years old. I would lock myself in my bathroom with my cd player and act like I was djing in front of thousands of people in front of the mirror hours at a time haha! The first time actually DJed on some technic’s was at my uncles house when I was 13 and ever since then I dedicated my life to DJing. [more…]
What is the significance of your DJ name? How did you get it?
The significance of my DJ name is that it has history behind it which is dope. My dad used to write “MOR 1” as a kid growing up, Then I got into writing around the same age as well as wrote the same thing. So when I was practicing everyday at my uncles house he asked what my dj name was and I said 1MOR and the logic behind me putting the “1” in front of my name was so when I was done djing in front of huge crowds they would chant “1MOR! 1MOR! 1MOR!” plus I transformed the name I inherited from my dad. So my dj name has a dope story behind it and wasn’t just an idea of the top of my head.
Who are your top 5 biggest influences?
My top biggest influences are: DJ Vice, Kanye West, Pharrell Williams, DJ Premier, and Eric Dlux.
What are some of your favorite tracks coming out of the West Coast right now?
Some of my favorite tracks right are: Blessed-School Boy Q ft. Kendrick Lamar, Playin’-YG ft. Young Jeezy, Nasty-Problem and Started From the Bottom by DRAKE because it’s my life in a song to be honest. The whole song is relevant to my life except wearing chains since i’ve never owned a chain in my life haha.
What’s the one thing aside from music that you love the most?
One thing I love besides music has to be Graff. I’ve always been in love with the art of graffiti and when I get a chance I always pull my black book out and do some throw ups, practice my writting, and do some pieces here and there!
