Where are you from and how did you become a DJ?
I live in Los Angeles now but I’m from a small town: Hercules, CA (in the San Francisco Bay Area). Started learning how to mix music my senior year of high school. Can’t say I didn’t pay dues, it took a lot of work to get from high school parties to nightclubs, and everything else along the way.
What is the significance of your DJ name? How did you get it?
I changed my name less than two years ago actually. My old name was B-EZ (be easy) which was given to me from a friend whom past away; it was an honor to take that name and roll with it. Growing up and expanding my brand I decided to take my name as ‘Brandon Fox.’ I wanted to have a marketable name that wouldn’t limit my brand to only being a DJ.

Who are your top 5 biggest influences?
DJ AM – I know there are people before DJ AM who performed mashups (i.e.: GirlTalk), but DJ AM did it with flare. He made it not only cool to cross genres, but to still have turntablism and perform live (with mistakes included). He was the face to pave the way for many creative DJs pushing boundaries and not sticking to one lane. As far as music producers: Just Blaze, Kanye West, David Foster, Max Martin.
What is your favorite part about being a DJ?
It has been a passion of mine since I started; as long as I strive to be better, it gets better. Now days I really enjoy playing my music. As a new producer I find a new reward watching how far something can go and knowing it is a result of my hard work & creativity. Another thing that’s great is connecting with incredible talent. There’s nothing like collaborating with people you look up to.
What are some of your favorite tracks coming out of the West Coast right now?
The West Coast is hot in both Hip Hop and Electronic Dance, I’m really glad to see California artists becoming a force to reckon with. It’s so hard limit what and who to name when it comes to this category.. but here’s a few:
– Chris Brown – Came to Do << haha he’s basically LA now, right?
– Omarion, Jhene Aiko, Chris Brown – Post To Be
– Kool John & P-LO – Bitch I look Good
– IAMSU – Love My Squad
– Kehlani – FWU
– Eric Bellinger – 4 Digits
– Dillon Francis & Martin Garrix – Set Me Free
– Deorro vs MakJ – Ready
– Steve Aoki – Neon Future

What’s the one thing aside from music that you love the most?
Honestly I love spending time with my family. If you know me then you know how incredible my family is. We really take pride on how strong our bond is, and I would die for any one of them. I don’t get to see them as much as I would like but it means so much when we get that opportunity.
