Where are you from and how did you become a DJ?
Im from Carson, Ca. I started as a “Radio Personality” before i learned to DJ. I’ve always had interest in learning the craft so when the opportunity came to DJ for my friend Glasses Malone I took it. I started at WPMD, Cerritos College radio program and built a large following from there. I picked up the craft really fast after i started taking it seriously. Salute my bro DJ Cali for looking out for me in the beginning.
What is the significance of your DJ name? How did you get it?
To keep it simple I was made fun of. Growing up my head has always been the focal point of jokes from friends and peers lol. They went from calling me “Big Head” to just “Head” for short. Since I’ve always been really good at video games I’d always have high scores, but in the old school games they’d only allow 3 spaces for high score.. So i took the “A” out of Head and kept “Hed.” When i decided to become a DJ, I became DJ Hed.
Who are your top 5 biggest influences?
Dr. Dre. Jazzy Jeff. Mannie Fresh. Lil Jon. Timbaland.
What is your favorite part about being a DJ?
Being the master puppeteer. I can dictate the flow/ mood of hundreds of people at once. It’s really deep for me on some psychological shit. lol
What are some of your favorite tracks coming out of the West Coast right now?
AD “Juice.” RJ “Get Rich.” Anything HBK & Nef The Pharoah “Big Tymin.”
What’s the one thing aside from music that you love the most?
It can be used for any emotion, any occasion, any circumstance. Music is as universal as mathematics.
