Jeff Nichols, writer and director of indie films Mud and Take Shelter, has taken on his first studio production with Midnight Special, which he describes as a “sci-fi chase film.” The plot revolves around a young boy named Alton, played by St. Vincent star Jaeden Lieberher, who possesses supernatural powers. His father (Michael Shannon) is keen on protecting him from a religious sect and government task force and decides to take him on the run.
