Top 10 Records of 2016
2016 was a great year for West Coast music, artists from all over California had national hits heard from all sides of the globe. There were dozens of records to choose from this year, so we the hard task to narrow it down to our top 10. Also, make sure you note that some of these came out at the very tail end of 2015, but they performed and set the tone for entirety of 2016, even up till now closing out the last week of the year. 10. Marc E Bassy “You & Me” feat. G-Eazy
2016 was a great year for Marc E. Bassy, especially when he debuted his new single, “You and Me,” with a feature appearance from G-Eazy. On the soothing track, Bassy and G-Eazy set fans up for summer with vibes that are perfect for a relaxing day on the beach with your favorite person. Bassy’s vocals help drive home the lyrics before G-Eazy comes onto the song with a memorable verse that matches perfectly over the funky production. 9. Kehlani “CRZY”
Regardless of what Kehlani has gone through, she came back to the music scene in May with the song “24/7,” and soon after she followed up with the release of her biggest hit of the year “CRZY.” In her words, “Thanks for letting me be me.” Nothing like some Kehlani in your like. 8. Game “All Eyez” feat. Jeremih
The Game released a lot of music in 2016 along with a 3-episode documentary series and a successful album release! On top of the year was his single he dropped entitled “All Eyez” featuring Jeremih. Roll with The Game one more time as the year comes to a close below with the visual!
7. YG “Why You Always Hatin” feat. Drake & Kamaiyah
One of the biggest anthems of the summer definitely includes one of the many bangers from YG! This single was premiered on OVO Sound Radio because Drake was featured on “Why You Always Hatin?” along with YG’s artist Kamaiyah! With production by DJ Mustard there was nothing but fire the day it released to ringing in the new. Turn up again with the squad below!
6. Ty Dollasign “Saved” feat. E-40
Keeping up with content from Ty Dolla Sign this year was insane with all the music he released. One of those tracks that stood out was the E-40 & DJ Mustard assistant joint “Saved.” This was seen on Ty’s debut album ‘Free TC’ which was followed up by the insanely successful ‘Campaign.’ All Ty knows how to do is win and 2017 is lining up to be more and more of it. 5. YG & Nipsey Hussle “Fuck Donald Trump”
Fresh out of a GOP Town Hall discussion when debates where just beginning in 2016, YG & Nipsey Hussle connected for one of the biggest anthems of the year in “FDT” aka “Fuck Donald Trump.” Not only did this track grow legs, but it grew to a remix to G-Eazy & Macklemore which made it even bigger. This lead to a tour with the same name and a global takeover even with Donald sitting in the White House in just under a month. FDT below!
4. OT Genasis “Cut It” feat. Young Dolph
Another one of the biggest tracks on the West Coast was “Them bricks is way too hot, you need to cut it. Your price is way too high, you need to cut it.” O.T. Genasis’ “Cut It” featuring Young Dolph. Seeing people react to this track in the club, or while he performed it live was next level. O.T. knows how to set the building on fire and this wasn’t his only track to do that this year either. 3. Schoolboy Q “That Part” feat. Kanye West
Right before Q did the push for his album he released one of the biggest records of the year with assistance from none other than Kanye West! The track is titled “That Part” and it has given him multiple Grammy nominations and it’s still in rotation absolutely everywhere. 2. Rob Stone “Chill Bill”
Another, potentially most noticeable track on the list would be Rob Stone’s “Chill Bill” because the song could be on for two seconds and you’d know exactly what it is. “She say she wanna roll with me and smoke up all my weed, I said baby just buy ditches cause you can’t smoke for free.” If you fux with this track then you can turn it all the way up because chances are you’ll hear it 20+ times a day on the radio.
1. G-Eazy “Me, Myself & I”
G-Eazy had the album of the year, so it’s only right that the song of the year followed suit. 2016, like mentioned before, was the year of G-Eazy and it all started with this little track you may know titled “Me, Myself & I.” This song, among others on his album sat near or at the top of multiple Billboard charts in different categories to Britney Spears singing along at the MTV Music Awards.
