Where are you from and how did you become a DJ?
I was born and raised in Los Angeles. From a small city located right in between Compton and Long Beach called Carson, CA.  One day back in ’99 my good friend DJ Boogie Ronsta invited me over and showed off his new set of Nu-mark turntables. Back then I was heavily influenced by BET’s “The Basement” and how they would always have DJ’s spinning for MC’s while they freestyle’d. I recall one episode where DJ Supreme was skratching records and I just became fascinated with that aspect of DJing. As I dug more into the art I discovered the Skratch Piklz, Beat-Junkies, etc; and the rest was history.

What is the significance of your DJ name? How did you get it?
Took my DJ name from my family nick name for me which was “Butchoy”. The way the would pronounce it was mad fobby. So to me it always sounded like they were saying “Boots”. One day I finally asked my mom how to spell it and she spelled out B-U-T-C-H. The translation from Tagalog (FIlipino) “Butchoy” is slang for fat boy.

Who are your top 5 biggest influences?
In no particular order; the Beat Junkies, Skratch Piklz, Los Angeles and the entire west coast movement, The Wake Up Show, Kobe Bryant.

What is your favorite part about being a DJ?
It’s tough to pick just one because I enjoy so many parts of it. Being the first to break new records and push the boundaries. Controlling an entire room by how you play/drop in music. The energy and connection that goes back and forth between you and the crowd is an experience I will never get tired of. Making record reps wait all night to play their records and sometimes not play them at all.

What are some of your favorite tracks coming out of the West Coast right now?
Anything coming out of the 10 summers camp is always a listen, Jemouri – Another Number, Kid3rd – Lit and Mill & Up, iiTsAD tracks always go.

What’s the one thing aside from music that you love the most?
Costco
