Mila J Interview with Playboy
Mila J, Jhene Aiko’s sister, is a total babe. She also has the palpable, undeniable energy of a star. The singer, songwriter, rapper, and dancer appeared Prince’s video for “Diamonds and Pearls” back in 1991 and yes, she’s also Jhené Aiko’s sister. Now Mila J’s third EP entitled “Dopamine” is out (look out for her debut album) and she’s going on tour. Photographer Jen Senn captured the artist in her element, while we asked her some questions about feeling good, being sexy, and not giving a f**k. Read more…
Besides great music, what gives you a dopamine rush?
Some good love, good food. I like Italian food. Fettucine and some garlic bread always gets me. Give me that and I’m a happy camper.
What makes you feel sexy?
I honestly feel sexiest right out of the shower, with my hair clean and face washed, in a towel. You feel pure but vulnerable. It’s a different state, like when you first wake up. I also like a boot up to my thigh – like give me some stripper clothes! Leather and a tall boot always make me feel sexy.
What do you find sexiest in another person?
A silent confidence. Mysteriousness is sexy. I don’t want to know everything about you up-front. Keeping mystery is good. I don’t want to know everything! I want to wonder sometimes. And a nice signature scent; I like a person’s natural scent. It’s the animal in us.
One of the songs off your new EP is called “No Fux.”What does it mean to you to not give a fuck?
The song kind of tells a story. In the beginning, it’s like “I don’t give a fuck if you want me back.” Then it shows the journey of most relationships when you think you’re done, but then they call for help. Of course you still love the person, so then you find yourself falling back in. It’s also about not giving a fuck about what other people think. Like, I know I told my friends and my mom we were done, but what’re they going to do?
Do you have a signature style?
I’m either a total tomboy in baggy sweats or going all out. It’s funny: Every day I wear a little Playboy pendant around my neck. I always have it. It actually wasn’t a necklace. It was from a duffel bag from the Joyrich collaboration. I took it off the zipper thing and made it into a necklace.
