Every Track on Kendrick Lamar’s ‘DAMN’ is Certified Platinum

Kendrick Lamar is one of the most popular and successful artists in the music industry by almost every measure, and now he’s achieved an incredible feat that only one other name before him has managed, further setting himself apart from even some of the biggest that have come before him. When the RIAA announced its slate of songs and albums which earned gold, platinum and multi-platinum certifications last month, Lamar’s name was all over the prepared release. The rapper collected a whopping 37 new certifications, with a number of tracks going gold for the first time, while some tunes immediately turned platinum. A handful of especially popular cuts have collected several platinum certifications, defining them as true smashes.

The most successful cut of the bunch by far is “Humble.,” which has now been certified seven-times platinum. Behind that No. 1 single (Lamar’s first on his own) comes “Love,” which has now gone four-times platinum. Two other tunes from the chart-topping record, “DNA.” and “Loyalty” with Rihanna, have also received more than one platinum honor. At the same time the songs featured on DAMN were issued new gold and platinum certifications, the RIAA also revealed that the full-length itself had gone triple platinum, making it the hip-hop superstar’s most-certified record yet.

DAMN was released just over a year ago, and it was immediately heralded as both an astounding artistic achievement and a massive commercial titan. The title debuted at No. 1 with a huge first week, and by the time it arrived, it had already produced a chart-topping single with “Humble.” The record went on to win five Grammys—Best Rap Album, Best Rap Performance, Best Rap Song and Best Music Video (for “Humble.”) and Best Rap/Sung Performance (for “Loyalty”)—and later, the Pulitzer Prize for music.

Earlier this year, alternative rock outfit Twenty One Pilots became the first act in history to see every song featured on one album earn at least a gold certification, and now Kendrick Lamar has followed shortly in their wake, becoming the first hip-hop act and the first solo artist to do so.
