Where are you from and how did you become a DJ?
I’m from a small city, Millbrae, California about 15 minutes south from San Francisco. I’m a music producer first but started DJing out of necessity about 2 years ago because P-Lo needed a tour DJ and I’d been closely producing with him at that time so it made sense as I was the one that understood his music and where he wanted to take it.

What is the significance of your DJ name? How did you get it?
CAL-A is this name my friend gave me when I was like 17 years old when I was actually rapping and producing at the time. It’s an anagram of letters from my last name and honestly doesn’t mean anything but I just ran with it because it sounded cool. Peak millennial shit, but it goes.

Who are your top 5 biggest influences?

  • Dr Dre
  • Jimmy Iovine
  • Kanye West
  • David Geffen
  • Phil Knight

What is your favorite part about being a DJ?
Traveling is for sure the best part. Being able to meet people from so many different places that connect with your music is such a rewarding feeling.

What are some of your favorite tracks coming out of the West Coast right now?

  • “no idea” P-Lo feat. ALLBLACK (anything from P-Lo really, no bias)
  • “Taste” Tyga
  • “Drank On Me” Capolow
  • “Sweet Lady” 03 Greedo
  • “Fuck It Up” Ocho

What’s the one thing aside from music that you love the most?
I love cooking food and working out. I recently developed a passion for them and I’m trying to learn as much as possible to get better at both. Health is wealth.

Where can people learn more about you?
You can follow me on Instagram & Twitter. Yee!
