Open Space: Buddy

“I just wanted to shine a light on the city. Show the city off, it’s beautiful.” When Buddy stopped by Mass Appeal headquarters to shoot his episode of “Open Space,” he was armed with Cali’s finest tree leaves and a gang of stuff to talk about, from being signed by Pharrell as a teenager and reconnecting with him to work on his debut album, Harlan and Alondra, to the origin of his A$AP Ferg collab “Black” and his love for fellow Cali native 03 Greedo, a “living legend.”

Compton rapper Buddy released his debut studio album ‘Harlan & Alondra’ in July. The third single “Hey Up There” features Ty Dolla $ign and is one of the most popular songs from the project with over 3 million Spotify streams to date. On the HazeBanga-produced track, Buddy and Ty Dolla describe the effects of newfound fame.

Buddy takes us through the first verse on “Trouble on Central” off his recent album “Harlan & Alondra.” Along with that he also gave some great background info and stories behind the song’s concept. Check it out above in the newest sit down with HNHH up top. Enjoy!

In the newest Over/Under episode from Pitchfork, Los Angeles’ own Buddy rates everything from Lebron James, Lady Gaga, airplane food, car surfing, ayahuasca and more. Check it out above.
