It appears as if Miami is getting its very own to-tier hip-hop festival. Dope Entertainment has announced the inaugural Rolling Loud festival, a one-day bash planned for the end of this month. Schoolboy Q is slated to headline and will be joined by fellow West Coast artists Casey Veggies & some of the TDE Family. Tickets are on sale at Rolling Loud’s website. Schoolboy Q made his Interscope debut early last year with ‘Oxymoron,’ a dynamic record that straddles both sides of Pico, equally applicable at swap meets and frat parties. His TDE cohorts also had a big year, with Ab-Soul releasing his ‘These Days…’ independently and Tennessee-bred newcomer Isaiah Rashad topping many critics’ year-end lists with his freshman effort, Cilvia Demo. Kendrick Lamar appears to have an album dropping imminently.
Action Bronson also has a record on the horizon, with his Mr. Wonderful due out Mar. 24. Bronson strengthened his personal brand last year with the success of his culinary-slash-travel-slash-general debauchery web series, Fuck, That’s Delicious. His 40-produced single, “Actin’ Crazy,” is out now.
A$AP Ferg’s circle suffered a tremendous loss recently, with the untimely passing of his manager, mentor and friend, A$AP Yams. Yams, 26, was a visionary for his use of the internet to spread new music, criticism and forgotten rarities to hip-hop fans who might not otherwise have access to those things. His first protege, A$AP Rocky, stars in Dope, a film that just sold at the Sundance Film Festival for $7 million.
