Continuing with the SXSW footage we all want, NPR had Vince Staples at one of its showcases in Austin last week, and now we get the professional footage from the crew. In all he performed 13 songs across a 40-minute set performing all his bangers from the last two projects. The crowd was feeling it, so will you! Aye!
Listening to Too Short, you would think he had some pretty crazy stories to tell, so when we met up with him at SXSW, we made sure to get him to share a “freaky tale”. Unsurprisingly, it lived up to the hype, with Short recalling a night ten years back where he found himself in a hotel room with 4 girls and 12 magnums.

HotNewHipHop sat down with G-Eazy while on his “These Things Happen” tour. During the interview he talks about how crazy SXSW was in Austin, Texas and getting no sleep before doing the Sway In The Morning interview. Furthermore, they talk also about Bay Area inspirations and getting E-40 on the new album. Hit the jump for more![more…]
G-Eazy hails from the Bay Area, and as he tells us, the local rappers from there had a big influence on his decision to rap. He recently got one his all-time favorites, E-40, to appear on the remix of his track “Far Alone.”
We asked him about the importance of his native Oakland, Cali, “The Bay influenced everything from when I first started to make music. That was everything I wanted to do, was inspired by the local scene going on. From Keak the Sneak to the OGs like E-40 and Mac Dre to the peers I had like the Pack.”
Eazy continued, “What I wanted to make what I was hearing on KMEL all day. In the mid-2000s when the hyphy movement was going on, that was a big inspiration.”
The rising rapper also spoke on his experience at this year’s SXSW, and running on three hours of sleep: “The thing about South By is it’s just non-stop. It’s just so crazy. There’s so much going on in that week in Austin, Texas, that it’s like all day long. In my whole South By trip, not coming from home, coming from tour to South By and then back to tour, I slept like maybe three hours in all of South By.”
He caps off the interview by advising fans to be on the look out for his album, after which the tour is titled. “Just look out for that new album These Things Happen. We just finished it up so I’m really excited for that.”
