Terrace Martin has been busy for a few years now and he released his solo album ‘Velvet Portraits’ last year to continue that success. Today, he’s returning to that project with a 10-minute short film. A short story follows a man struggling with the loss of a past lover. In his words, “I wanted something to represent real life. I got with a great crew of writers & directors, Aplus Filmz, a great producer, Beny Ashburn, and some great new actors and dancers. After that art was made.” Peep it above.
Check out the newest video for “Oakland” from Terrace Martin. whose solo effort ‘Velvet Portrait’s secured a 2016 Grammy nomination for best R&B album. “Places like Oakland and Baltimore, in my opinion, are the heartbeats of black America,” he explained to Billboard. “I believe Oakland is so rich in culture, spirit and hustle, and it’s such an important city to me because the characteristics that I love about Oakland really put it all together.”
Terrace Martin has been around for a minute. Though it was his work on Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp a Butterfly—which he helped to shape by helming the contributions of a wide array of collaborators, including his childhood friends Kamasi Washington and Thundercat—that served as his introduction to music fans beyond the realm of modern jazz, he’s been a steady, indispensable presence at studios in and around L.A. In addition to his brilliant solo work, he also put in years working with Snoop Dogg.
