Kendrick Lamar’s ‘To Pimp a Butterfly’ will be immortalized in Harvard University’s library. 9th Wonder, who is curating Harvard’s These Are the Breaks project, chose Kendrick’s 2015 LP as one of the first four hip-hop albums to be archived in the university’s library. It will be archived alongside three classics: Nas’ ‘Illmatic,’ A Tribe Called Quest’s ‘The Low End Theory’ and Lauryn Hill’s ‘The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.’ Read more…
Keeping forward on Kendrick Lamar‘s success, his ‘To Pimp a Butterfly’ album is now certified platinum. The news grows with the RIAA’s updated album award rules, which will now count audio and video streams in it’s gold and platinum program, instead of just sales. The album has surpassed the 500,000 mark in cumulative sales, as the set sells another 29,000 copies in the week (upping its total to 513,000). That makes it the seventh album to sell a half-million copies in 2015, and gives the music industry the fastest accumulation of half-million sellers since 2010. Kendrick Lamar holds the #1 spot on Billboard this week with his new album, ‘To Pimp A Butterfly.’ According to HDD, the album sold an estimated 319k copies it’s first week (355k, including streams). On top of breaking Drake’s single-day streaming record with 9.6 million, beating himself the next day with 9.8M, and receiving high praise from just about every publication there is, TPAB marks Kendrick’s first #1 album.
